The origins of the family are from the time of the expulsion from Spain. The family moved to Monastir (Bitola) Macedonia. The tradition, passed from generation to generation, tells that the family name is from the word "to separate", in Hebrew. During the expulsion the family members decided to separate and each part of the family went in a different direction. Some of the family took the name Prado (from 'to separate') and others stayed Padro. In 1814, the first of the family to move to Jerusalem was David Prado (Padro) (1794-1846). He married Yael Diamant Matalon (1829-1881). The couple had 3 children: Rabbi Behor David Prado (1855-1937), Rabbi Shmuel-Eliezer Prado (1857-1938) and Malca Prado. Rabbi Behor David Prado (1855-1937), was one of the first inhabitants that left the Old City and moved to Ohel Moshe. He married Rivka. Their children were: Hacham Rabeinu Haim Pinchas Prado (1876-1959), who was arrested by the Turks because he refused to serve in the army. He became the Rabbi of the Trento Synagogue in the Ohel Moshe neighborhood. He married Flora Reuven; Eliyahu Prado (was sent to Argentina and drowned when his boat sank); Menahem Prado (was a teacher who ran away to Egypt with his family to avoid being drafted into the Turkish army. He returned to Jerusalem in 1948; Yosef Prado (1893-1967). He was a barber in the Mazkeret Moshe neighborhood. He married Rivka Hason and moved to Canada; Rachel Prado, born in 1894, married Yosef Gabizon and Esther Prado (1919, married David Levy. Yosef Prado married Rivka Hason. The couple's children were: Esther (1921-1955, married Moshe Parnes); Leah (1926, Lisa, married Edelman in Canada), Eliyahu (1930-1967, lived in Canada); David (1935 married Lili); Binyamin (Benny, 1938-2004); and Yaakov, the youngest child (Jacky 1941, married Shoshana-Suzanne, lives in Toronto, Canada). The couple moved to Canada. This photo collection was brought to the Yad Ben-Zvi Archives by Professor Yaakov Prado (Padro), the son of Yosef and Rivka (Hason), from Toronto, Canada, through the assistance of the Lev Ha'ir Community Center in Jerusalem. The photographs are family photos of the Prado and Hason families along with photographs of the activities of the Youth Center in Mazkeret Moshe (Beit Weiner) during the early 1950's.
